Get Hooked

On Friday, February 2nd, 8th grade students from the district traveled to Cypress Bend Park to participate in an Educational Day “Get Hooked on Toledo Bend.” The event was sponsored by the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission. Students started their day under the pavilion listening to a presentation provided by officers with the Sabine Parish Sheriff’s Office. After the presentation, teachers assisted students with their itinerary. Eight stations were set up with presenters ready to share a wealth of information. Divers with West Louisiana Scuba shared techniques and told stories about diving adventures in Toledo Bend. The students learned about boat safety provided by the Louisiana Dept. of Wildlife and Fisheries and became familiar with Toledo Bend’s Lunker Bass Program. Students also heard presentations about the history of Toledo Bend and fish identification. A few of the Major League Fishing Tournament Pros shared casting and knot tying techniques at their station. Lots of laughter and cheering was heard all around the park from students participating in the relay competition. It was a great day enjoyed by all in attendance. We would like to thank the Sabine Parish Tourist Commission for partnering with the school system to provide a great educational day. We also would like to express our appreciation to the presenters that volunteered their time to make this event a success.
