TITLE I PART A-FAMILY ENGAGEMENT
The Sabine Parish School District believes parent and family engagement must be a priority for children to learn and achieve academic success. The school system recognizes that parents provide the primary educational environment for children; consequently, parents are vital and necessary partners throughout their child’s pre-kindergarten through twelfth-grade experience. Parents and guardians are encouraged to become actively engaged in their child’s education. Research shows that when schools and families work together students of all backgrounds and various abilities achieve at a higher level.

WHAT IS PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT?
Parent and Family Engagement means the participation of parents and family members in regular, two-way, and meaningful communication involving student academic learning and other school activities, including ensuring:
Parents or guardians play an integral role in assisting their child’s learning.
Parents and guardians are encouraged to be actively involved in their child’s education.
Parents and guardians are full partners in their child’s education and are included, as appropriate, in decision-making and on advisory committees to assist in the education of their child.
The carrying out of other activities, such as those described in Section 1116 of the Every Students Succeeds Act.
PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT PLANS
Sabine Parish School District has developed a parent and family engagement plan to support the strengthening of students’ academic achievement. The plan establishes the district’s expectations and objectives for meaningful engagement and guides the strategies and resources that strengthen school and parent partnerships in the district’s Title I Schools.
The plan describes Sabine Parish School District’s commitment to engage families in the education of their children and to build capacity in its Title I schools to implement engagement strategies and activities designed to achieve the district and students academic achievement goals. When schools, families, and communities work together to support learning; children tend to do better in school, stay in school longer, and enjoy school more. The plan is reviewed and updated annually with collaboration and input from the district parent advisory committee.
Each school in the district develops its own parent and family engagement plan with input from parents of participating students. District level personnel provides technical assistance and support to schools in the development and implementation of individual school family engagement plans.
STUDENT / PARENT / TEACHER COMPACT
A Home-School compact is developed at each Title I School. At the beginning of each school year, the compact is shared with all stakeholders in order to build and develop a partnership to help children achieve the State’s high academic standards.
PARENT AND FAMILY ENGAGEMENT LIAISONS
Every school in the district has an identified Parent and Family Engagement Liaison. At the District Level, the Title I Program Coordinator conducts quarterly meetings with the school level Parent and Family Engagement Liaisons. At the quarterly meetings the liaisons collaborate to learn strategies to strengthen parent engagement at each school. The liaisons also identify ways to ensure they can provide parents with resources necessary to support their child at home with academic skills.

RESERVATION OF FUNDS: Section 1118(a)(3)
As directed by the Every Child Succeeds Act 2015, the Sabine Parish School District’s Title I budget has reserved one percent of the total amount of Title I funds it receives every fiscal year to carry out the parent and family engagement requirements listed in the plan and as described in Section 1116 of the ESSA. Furthermore, the SPSD will distribute 90 percent of the amount reserved to Title I schools to support their local-level family engagement programs and activities. The district maintains financial records of expenditures of parental involvement in both the Title I schools and at the district level. The district also provides clear guidance and communication to assist each Title I school in developing an adequate family engagement budget that addresses their needs assessment and parent recommendations.
ANNUAL NEEDS ASSESSMENT
Annual Needs Assessment Surveys are conducted to get the overall opinion on the school’s environment and its academic performance. The information is reviewed at the District and School Level to adjust and revise family engagement activities for the following school year.
