Lets Go Fishing

The annual “Let’s Go Fishing” Aquatic Education Clinic, sponsored by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, was held March 24–26, 2026, for fifth-grade students in Sabine Parish. Students traveled to Cypress Bend Park, where they spent the day exploring a variety of interactive stations led by LDWF biologists, agents, and community volunteers.

Throughout the clinic, students gained hands-on experience with important outdoor and water safety skills. They practiced casting, learned to tie fishing knots, identified different species of fish, and discussed the differences between native and invasive species. Presenters also shared information about water and boating safety and the importance of protecting local waterways and wildlife habitats.

One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity for students to fish alongside volunteers from the Toledo Bend Lake Association. For many students, it was their first time catching a fish or a turtle. The Aquatic Education Clinic provided students with a memorable hands-on experience while teaching them about conservation and the natural resources found in our area.
