On September 8–9, 2026, sixth-grade students from across Sabine Parish participated in Forestry Awareness Week at San Miguel Park in Zwolle, Louisiana. Sponsored by the Louisiana Society of American Foresters, this annual event provided students with an engaging, hands-on opportunity to learn about Louisiana’s forests, natural resources, and the important role forestry plays in our environment and economy.
Throughout the event, students rotated through educational stations focused on insects and tree diseases, reforestation, soil and water conservation, timber harvesting, fire prevention and safety, wildlife, tree identification, and recreation. Through presentations and hands-on activities, students were able to connect classroom learning to real-world experiences and develop a greater appreciation for Louisiana’s forests and natural resources.
Sabine Parish Schools extends a special thank you to the Piney Woods Chapter of the Society of American Foresters for coordinating this outstanding educational opportunity for our sixth-grade students and providing them with an enjoyable learning experience.
